Crow Studies

Overview

This program of study is designed for students to examine the historical, political, economic, artistic, linguistic and social components of Crow Indian culture. This major will fulfill requirements in American Indian culture and language, and teacher certification.

The Native American Studies option is designed for students planning to transfer to a four year college. In addition to the study of Native American culture, the major is intended to prepare graduates to work with Indian people, transfer to a four year program in Native American Studies or related field, and/or fulfill the requirements of endorsement of teachers instructing Native American Studies on or near Indian reservations.

Program of Study

• 30 credits hours including:
• Crow Language II
• Intro to Native American Studies
• Crow Indian Art
• Music & Dance of the Crow Indians
• Crow Oral History
• Crow History
• American Indian Political Science
• Economics in Indian Country
• American Indian Education History & Issues
• In addtion, one of the following courses:
• Horse in Crow Indian History & Culture
• Montana Indians Prior to 1851
• American Indian Law
